[Updatex2] – 13.08.08 (9.33am)
Interestingly, the latest security fix for Mac OSX Leopard has completely resolved all update procedure issues with iTunes and iPhone.
Go figure?
[Update] – 06.08.08
- iTunes has now started displaying MULTIPLE versions of each update when accessing the update section of iTunes. Also to note, I can no longer download any applications (never mind update them), to my iPhone through the App Store. I get an alert to the effect of:
“iTunes is unable to download these applications. These applications will be available once you connect to iTunes”
Original Article:
So, whats the problem? – iTunes 7.7.1.
The recent update pushed by Apple. After updating to it, many users are now reporting serious problems with the application update system, including me. I’ll walk you through what we’re experiencing as iPhone and iPod touch users …
Firstly, If you don’t have an iPhone or iPod touch – thank you for bothering to even read this article!
Now, normally, whenever iTunes gets word there’s an update for an application you already have in your library, iTunes notifies you pushing a little badge notification beside ‘Applications’ on the left pane.
Rather like this:
Prior to iTunes 7.7.1, iTunes coped with these updates, flawlessly. When clicked, the user was brought to a page displaying the exact amount of updates needed, and the relevant buttons required to purchase or download these updates, for the applications in question.
This is no longer the case – I too clicked to the ‘update’ link today, expecting 5 new updates, as quoted.
The number of updates that were actually displayed, was quite a bit different to 5.
97. Yes – 97 application updates. To get a jist of this problem, that’s every application I currently own, in my library. So I say, Ok – I’ll download them, as they must be newer versions of what I already have – right? – Erm, No. What actually happened was iTunes 7.7.1, gracefully, ‘Updated’ all my applications (both bought and freely downloaded) in my library to a previous version. For example, it gracefully ‘Updated’ Sketches from v1.2 back to v1.1.
I’m not the only one experiencing this. I know this for a fact. There are hundreds upon thousands of people experiencing this, it’s featured all over the web. What did you change in iTunes 7.7.1 to make this system collapse?!
What is going on here Apple!? – I mean seriously. iTunes 7.7.1 has completely messed-up the whole updating system for mobile applications. The App Store is now worthless to me, ironically.
[I'd love to hear what you think about this - Drop me a comment below.]
We’re paying iPhone and App Store customers.
Sort it Out.
