Hot Pick: Liquid Pics [Briefly]

Posted on October 29th, 2008. Written by Arron.

If you’ve ever want to make someone think their eye’s have left their body, or you just like the idea of turning your photo’s into a water like substance, then this is definitely the app for you. It has no real practical use, but it’s extremely well executed, and follows the one important factor of the iPhone’s design. Simplicity.

Fukatsu is by no means new to the store, with previously releasing; Toy Camera [App Store] (£1.19), Old Camera (0.59p) [App Store], Clock 01 – Simple (0.59p) [App Store] and Random Pose (Free) [App Store].

This is just a very brief look at an app I came across today, which I think is pretty slick. First off, the pictures in this article really can’t do this application full justice. I’ll work on getting a brief video up of it in action, shortly – but you really do have to try it yourself. This, is Liquid Pics [App Store].

Although this application appears simple, by using it, you can feel it’s had a lot of thought and effort thrown into it. Your probably wondering what it does? – Aptly named, you pick a photo, and it becomes malleable on-screen, right there in front of you. Tilt your device in any direction, and watch your photo melt towards that direction.

You can also manipulate your photo with multiple fingers. Every time you touch the screen, white circle will emit (and eventually fade out) from your touch point – again, another small touch which makes all the difference. In the lower left corner, you’ll see a small white circle with an arrow in it. Touch it, and a contextual menu will pop up offering two further options; Select Image and Save Image – both of which are pretty self explanatory. Images can be selected from your photo library with this option, and the app itself does load one bundled image on first launch.

The Best Bit
What I love about this application is the ability for the photo in question to return to it’s former self. Lay your iPhone or iPod touch down on a flat surface, and watch as the photo untwists to become a normal looking photo again. Next, find your victim, and ask them to pick up the device – watch their reaction

At £1.19 some may find it a bit of a steep joke for an application which has no real purpose, however Liquid Pics is great fun, supports multi-touch and best of all can be used to sucker in unsuspecting people!

Hi, I'm Arron. I'm 20 and I am currently working as a freelance graphic designer and blogger. While managing RazorianFly, I currently also write for AppBoy.com, have previously written for 148Apps.com and have been approached by many others. I've been into graphic design for about 7 years now, and now offer iPhone and iPad Interface Design to developers professionally. Along with James, I also co-founded our brilliant new shortening service, RFly.Me. I'm very much tuned into both the App Store and Apple in general. I like the design, presentation and clarity of a product. If it doesn't cut it I'll tell you straight. I'm on Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo and Facebook!
