Tap ‘N’ Slide: Fast Paced, Addictive Fun – [Updated]

Posted on November 10th, 2008. Written by Arron.

Illustrated by Joe Snow and developed by Mobile Pie Ltd, Tap ‘N’ Slide is a fast-paced test of reactions, but not in the usual way. Usually reaction games consist of interacting with the application on a sudden change (for example, sudden colour changes) …

[Update] – It would seem the guys over at Mobile Pie took my advice! – Tap ‘N’ Slide is now just 59p. Great going guys!

See it in action!

Tap ‘N’ Slide is different as your required to follow certain paths to complete certain moves within the time limit. We were given a copy to review by Mobile Pie Ltd about a week ago, and I have to say, I’ve personally not been able to get off it since!

It uses innovative tap and slide gestures to get you using your fingers and to get you started, when you first launch the app it runs through the gestures you’ll need to know. Tapping, double tapping, sliding and spinning – you’ll do everything with this one.

“The game play is simple – the player must complete a sequence of moves against the clock by tapping, sliding, or spinning their finger on the touch screen”

As the game progresses, the time will get faster — the aim is to try and complete as many moves as possible within the given time limit. If you mess up or perform the wrong move anywhere in the game, it’s game over matey.

Visuals and Sound
They are pretty much spot on. For a quirky title like this, it’s visuals are great. The game has a backing track! – The first game I think we’ve reviewed with a continuous backing track. It does loop and can get a bit irritating after a while, but saying that, I can’t fault it as it suits this style of game pretty well.

Crashilious?
Yep. During playing the Tap n Slide, it seemed to crash back to the home screen about 3 times within 20 minutes. We’ve had a couple of titles do this recently, and again we can’t confirm the problem is actually related to the title itself – it may just be the fault of iPhone OS version 2.1.

Price
Tap ‘n’ Slide currently sells for £1.19 which isn’t a lot, and for it’s quirky graphics , plus the amount of reply value this title has, it seems justified. However, I think this title would absolutely fly off the shelf if the developers were to drop it to 59p.

Overall
I like it. It’s addictive, has a high replay value and in my opinion would be money well spent. It has the kind of visual feedback I would look for in a game, and the concept of game play is pretty unique. The only thing I would compare it to is Maze Finger by Ngmoco just because it follows the same basic principles. We think it deserves a 9.2/10, with the only possible future additions I would want to see including support for online scores. 3 reviews on the App Store to date, at 5 stars.

Head on over to the App Store:
Tap ‘n’ Slide, and if you have the game, let us know what YOU think about it in the comments!
