Zombie Mansion Goes RTM

Posted on November 25th, 2008. Written by Arron.

We’ve been involved in the beta testing process of Zombie Mansion, a new FPS for iPhone and iPod touch for a while now, and we’re pleased to announce that it’s out of it’s beta stages, and has gone RTM. Sean has submitted the application for review by Apple, after which the game will go on sale on the App Store for the retail price of $6.99 / £4.99. Hit the jump for a full look at what you’ll get! …

Hitting the App Store shortly, Zombie Mansion is set in a maze-ridden haunted mansion filled with zombies of every variety. Your aim? – escape Zombie Mansion, alive. In the early beta stages, although the concept of the game was there, people were doubtful the game had enough to entertain the App Store crowd – what with all the fly-fluting games out there now. We tried to get it some attention, and we managed it, with the article (and pre-release video) hitting the front page of Touch Arcade a few weeks back.

‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson. â„— 1982 MMJ Productions Inc.

Beta 3 also saw a slurry of bug fixes added, including; fixed skins for guards (shields were wrong), tidied strafe controls, lightened up game play all round, explosions emit light, onscreen controls more transparent and general performance improvements.

In beta 4, Sean fixed another tonne of bugs and while at it added even more features, including the likes of;

Doors open more easily, only player can pick up keys, trapdoors make you fall in the next level, fix for walls disappearing when you get too close, Reduced cracking, If you tap the jump button over and over, the tapping of the button triggers the jumping sound, now saving properly, bitmap graphics look better a long distances, saves weapons and health power ups, left/right turning is more progressive, right side extends further, fixed texture mapping on many rooms, remove monsters after death, fixed lighting for models, black textures on healthon ground floor, screen flashes red when hit, lots of map changes, more enemies early on in the level, staff no longer disappears into walls, fixed jerky movement around exploding walls, new game now resets player turn.

Today, the game has finally gone RTM, and is expected to hit the store within 10-14 days (Apple’s standard review time). I have to say after reviewing Zombie mansion for a further last time, game play is much more polished.

Sounds are enhanced (they no longer sound ‘beta’), environment textures are pretty much spot on, the game no longer crashes, controls no longer stick, the game now has a backing track!, the screen will now flash red on you being attacked, the map has been greatly changed – greatly, a timer has now been added in the top right corner and I’m sure much more I’ve not yet had time to explore. I have to give it to Sean, throughout the entire beta testing process, he listened. Something which I think some other developers could follow suit on.

Look out for it hitting the store soon, and more for information on it’s release, be sure to follow it’s progress at SourceITSoftware. We’ll also let you know the second it becomes available on the App Store.
