Peter Boctor Returns: Hot Popcorn [Updated]

[Update] – Hot Popcorn is now LIVE [App Store]
Original Article:
To my surprise, I just this minute got an e-mail from independent developer Peter Boctor. You may remember him as the developer of Tomatoes – a movie application which aimed to provided all of the information Rotten Tomatoes currently provides in any easy-to-use iPhone interface. It wasn’t clear why the application was pulled from the store in the first place (possible copyright issues?) – but today may just have made things a little clearer.
Peter is announcing a new app. Submitted to Apple for review, and with a great UI, with the right exposure, this could be huge.
The app? – Hot Popcorn, it’s purpose? – to provide you with the latest movie information, show times, reviews, news, and more. At first, Hot Popcorn may seem to offer nothing more than the fruits of the big players, for example, Flister’s Movies [App Store], but with it’s clean UI, polished interface, and ability to purchase movie tickets within the application itself – it’s now seeming to look some-what like a step up from the current competition. It’s sort of the grown up paid version of Tomatoes.
Described as being Hot Popcorn’s ‘distinguishing’ features,
Peter says users that use Hot Popcorn will be able to:
- Buy tickets without leaving the app
- Read movie reviews without leaving the app
- Integrate Amazon shopping.
With Hot Popcorn also offering:
- Movie information including poster, cast, synopsis, rating and runtime.
- Box Office results and Top DVD rentals.
- Movie Trailers
- Movie Search
- Movie show times for the US, Cananda, UK and Ireland.
- Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and Critical Consensus

Peter has secured that we will be receiving an exclusive promo code on launch, which we will use to grab a copy and review the app. As with Tomatoes before it was sadly pulled, I think Hot Popcorn is set to be a hit – especially among movie lovers.
Hot Popcorn has been submitted to the store, and is expected to sell for $3.99/£2.99

I think that the idea is great, but not great enough for 4 bucks unless you go to the movies everyweek and constanly check. I say this also because Flixter is free and only lacks some features. I personally dont think people will provide and extra 4 dollars just for those features, which are nice… but not nice enough.
