Thanks to every one of you who has entered into this incredible RF Contest! We have to say, there were some pretty darn great answers there, and picking just one was pretty difficult.

Winning Entry

David:

I need things because I am CONSTANTLY in the doghouse from my wife for forgetting little things like picking up the milk, dropping off the dry cleaning, picking up kids… you know… things that just the head of the household likes to get upset about ;)
In all seriousness though, I am always trying to make myself lists… I lose these all the time. If I were able to have a program like this on my phone and computer, it would make “things” so much easier to accomplish! Not only that, but my wife could just make the list for me and send me out into the world with my marching orders. This would greatly improve my quality of life! Oh yeah, and the kids wouldn’t be waiting outside of their school for an hour and a half like they did today.

In association with high-profile developers Cultured Code, we are extremely excited to announce our biggest RazorianFly Contest to date!!! One lucky reader will win not only Things for iPhone, but also Things for Mac!!! This is a package of both the mobile and desktop client of Cultured Code’s widely popular Things task management app. This contest holds a total value of just under $60 USD.

For terms and conditions and how you can enter yourself, hit the jump!

So far we’ve given away dozens of Apps, both through our blog and through Twitter.  We wanted to do something big for our readers as a way to say thanks.  So we teamed up with Cultured Code to offer you this amazing package deal of Things.

Let me properly introduce myself...Hi, I'm Chris. As I'm sure you already figured out, since I write on an Apple blog, that I love spending way too much money on Apple products...oh and I also love to use them. I can remember the day my dad purchased the very first Mac released, and I've been hooked since. I have been around the Interwebs for quite awhile now and some of my biggest projects to date are various forums, web communities, that I have founded and currently admin. For my full time job I having been working in IT for the last 7 years. Feel free to follow me on Twitter.

  1. Thanks for the contest, very cool. Why do I need Things? Because I recently went into business for myself and need a way to keep everything moving. When you work for someone else you are constantly being reminded what to do. Working for myself I am always trying to remember which ball is in the air and which one I am trying to kick through the goal. Things, for both the iPhone and my Mac, would help a lot with that.

  2. I need Things because after reading about all the wonderful things that Things can do, Things will help me organise things in my life that otherwise will get lost in the growing pile of things to to.

  3. OMG! I’m begging you, I need a way to organize my life bad. Things for my MAC and iPhone would help me put my life into perspective no matter where I might be a the time. I am trying to track tasks at work, at church, to do on our new home, to do on the rental home, keeping track of selling my Grandfathers house, and trying to start a business. Not to mention my own personal interests that I usually have to put on the back burner to review later, and usually forget about as I am having trouble juggling everything I have to do and I am always on the go. If I had one application to track it all together and sync to my iPhone that would go a long ways into putting it all into perspective so that I could try to manage them and my time a bit better. Please help me as I am drowning now and missing tasks and falling way behind. Sorry, to beg but it has become desperate for me now.

  4. Awesome contest.

I’d say the biggest reason I need Things is to clear my cluttered head. I have ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder, and my mind jumps from one thing to the next like a jackrabbit taking shots of RedBull. I have trouble focusing on and remembering tasks and need to keep track of everything in an organized place. I’ve been struggling with this and have tried several trials of these kinds of applications (GTD’s) and found they were the best thing for me.

My computer and email is a cluttered mess of “remember this” and “do this” files. I need something straight-forward and organized, as organization is one of my biggest problems. I’m going to be studying photography, design and writing in college soon and will definitely need a place too keep all of my to-do’s.

I’m self-schooling myself right now and am using a system where I’ll use my email to have a list of assignments. Of course, I can’t really check things off, nor is it easy to find this email and access it. This is why I need a steady and easy-to-access system where I can list all that I need to do and in what priority.

Again, organization is my biggest struggle at this point and I can’t afford to lose track of tasks at this point in my life. Being able to use Things to contain everything would be awesome.

It would give me peace of mind that everything’s kept in there, and that nothing is forgotten.

    Thanks,
    Chase

  5. I’ll be honest.

I don’t truly truly desperately need things. If it was that bad, I would just shell out the money for it. Sure, I have a busy life with a lot of things I have to be aware of and keep track of. But I can[ get by with pen and paper.

Then why am I applying for this contest and hindering someone else’s chance at winning?

    I’ll be honest.

I want things because it looks cool, it’s practical, and it actually would be a more efficient way to be organized.

I’m also a big huge jerk. It’s the American thing to do. Free market forces, the survival of the fittest, competition, and all that good stuff. I’m applying for the contest because I want to win.

I believe that deep in all of our hearts, we feel the same way. Will we be devastated if we lose? No. Will we feel that sense of satisfaction, no matter how small or trite, if we do win? Yes, yes, yes, and yes some more. This is the social/cultural shaping that all of us who were raised in the USA become indoctrinated with.

This is why I’d like to win the contest for Things. I would use it and use it to the fullest, but I’d also get that deep satisfaction like no other.

  6. Why do you need Things?

Because I tested the beta-version of things for the Mac for quite a long time now … and I like the simplicity of keeping track of my tasks.
Any other reasons? Yes! Things for Mac and Things for the iPhone live (and sync) in perfect harmony ;-)

  7. I’m a full time student and have a full time job. Between the all night cram sessions and trying to pretend to be cheery at work I hardly have any rest and as such don’t have a very good memory. My computer monitor, fridge and all my mirrors are overflowing with stickies, some of which are illegible as I start to nod off when I write them. I need a way to keep my life in order before it goes down the drain. I’ve seen Things on my teachers mac and it’s amazing! Unfortunatley after tuition, bills and gas I don’t have enough to spare for this. Getting a free pass for once would save me from having to drop my classes or flunk them. For your consideration I’m gratefull and I hope to hear from you soon.

  8. As I Mac (and iTouch) user, I’ve always been looking for a (good) program to help me sort out my schedule and everything else that needs to be done at a certain time. I am currently a student and also have a part-time job, so things can get rather hectic at times. Most people I know who have a mac and Things have always praised Things for its simplistic approach for organization. I would like to try it out :) .

Thanks for your time and effort.

    Justin.

    My E-Mail is justomz92@yahoo.com

  9. I need things to keep my job, personal life, and the glorious GamesAreEvil organized. I’m a Mac head and an iPhone freak, so it’s PERFECT.

Love what you’re doing here. Great stuff!

  10. After being laid off in October I decided it was finally time to switch to freelance web development full time. Over the past few months I’ve been growing my business and making just enough to pay the bills. In the last few weeks my calendar has started to fill with meetings, deadlines, and events and its becoming harder and harder to manage.

On top of that, if starting my own business wasn’t enough, my fiance and I are struggling to plan our wedding which is coming up on July 4th, 2009 and we’ve yet to send out save the dates, invitations, select flowers, pick out a cake…

I know this probably sounds like a “pity me” post, but the reality of it is that I *need* these applications badly and could make great use of them on a day to day basis.

  11. I need things because I am a very disorganized person. I constantly forget the most simple of tasks, and the other To-do apps have been useless with no syncronization with the desktop or the cloud. This app looks perfect for me, and I was considering it anyway. I need something that will keep my life together, which I have been unable to do. I have to do a lot of planning for other people, also, which is a disaster waiting to happen. This would be a lifesaver, and would help more than just one person. I love the iPod Touch, but without any to-do app native, I need a decent one, 3rd party. I am always late and forgetting “Things”, so I’m pretty sure that this would help me with this issue, a lot. Also does Things sync to my gCal? I can go around and do it, but I would like a direct sync.

Either way, I would appreciate this app, and it would help a lot. I’m not giving some “I got laid off/I just started a business” likely bogus story. I’m just telling you how it is, and this app would help fix it.

brewstermax2012@gmail.com, if I win the codes.

  12. I have 3 jobs, 2 kids, and 1 lovable old dog that needs his medicines on a wacky schedule. The trial version of things has already improved my life so much that I am thinking about getting another job and/or another kid. If I am selected in this contest I am sure I will be able to manage both.

  13. So many things to do and no where to keep them. I am overloaded with things to do at work. So many things to do at home to fix our apartment up. So many things to remind my husband to do. So many things to remember to complete for class. So many things to do indeed. I cannot remember all the things I have yet to do. Now comes along this contest with the perfect combination to organize all the things I have to do. What could be more awesome than that? Thanks for the chance to win this iPhone and Mac Things combination!

  14. As a long-time Mac lover and recent iPhone adopter, I still haven’t been able to cut the cord to my tattered paper planner. Things is the only app that I’d be willing to make the switch for — and just in time, because I have 25 grad school applications due in the next two months. Do you know how many separate tasks need to be coordinated to apply to grad school?! I’m overwhelmed, and my paper planner is NOT cutting it anymore. But I can’t afford the $60 — that’s the average cost of a single grad school application. The Things app bundle would pretty much save my life — and my wallet :-)

  15. As a supreme multi-tasker with two kids, I have a list of THINGS that need to be done everyday and twice on Sunday. With clients, full-time job and kids. THINGS get missed or forgotten. Thanks for the contest, giving us the THINGS we would like to win.

  16. Hey guys, I know R-Fly through this site and twitter and I’ve been trying to do some artwork for James for Bullet Skater. I think I need things because, first of all, I have a mac so it would work. Anyway, as a student, it’s hard to juggle tennis, school, and all my doctors appointments, tennis lessons, etc. This app would allow me to set up my schedule on my computer and take it on the go anywhere so when I’m out eating lunch with some buds with no worries, and I look at Things and realize I have to teach a lesson in 30 minutes, I won’t leave the little kids sitting at a park. Now, do you want little kids sitting all by themselves at a park? You know what can happen to them! So that’s why I would like this prize bundle; to save the youth of America from the harms of local parks (and helping me out with staying on top of my school work and such, of course)

  17. I’ve recently gone into business for myself and I’m operating on a shoe-string budget. I’d love to turn my evaluation copy of things into the full-blown version and use it in conjunction with the iPhone app. I dearly love the way I can inject as little or as much control over my projects and find the areas of responsibility and rich search features to be the game winners with this product. Combined with the fact that the interface is svelte and mac-like I’m sold. Well, I WILL be when my technology budget can afford it. I have already been recommending this product to clients and will continue to do so based on the great feedback from the developer (what promptness!).

great GTD software and, of course, only found on a mac. love it for both my personal and professional Things!

  18. I need things because I am CONSTANTLY in the doghouse from my wife for forgetting little things like picking up the milk, dropping off the dry cleaning, picking up kids… you know… things that just the head of the household likes to get upset about ;)

  19. Why do I need Things?
Well I could give the one quick answer: I am Married!
But it gets more complicated than that.

I need Things because I am a Husband – I need to make Honey-Do Lists, and gift list for her as well (Bonus Points!!).

I need Things because I am a Father – How else do I remember my boys Soccer Game and the due date of my next (Please be a girl!!).

I need Things because I am full time employee – I have a hard time keeping track on paper what client is getting what and when they need it and were to get it (just take a look at my desk!).

I need Things because I an a full time student – Ummm.. wait was I suppose to be in 214 or was it 241?

I need things because I need a life! – As much as I have going on each day I still need to find a few minuets to do something for me and with these applications I will be able to do just that and more from my iPhone and my Mac without having to sync them through the 30 min. iTunes process!

    Thanks,
    Brad

  20. First of all, thanks for organizing this awesome contest!!!

I need Things simply because I have so many tasks to do. And I strongly believe that Things will help me do complete those taskes.

As a 9th-year graduate student in engineering, I am planning to graduate this year. This means… I have LOTS of things to do such as finishing ongoing projects, writing dissertations, looking for jobs in this tough economical situation, running errands, etc…

Yes, I should be well-organized to get all the above things timely and effectively. And This is WHY I need Things because it will be the best assistant for me to get organized and finish all the tasks I need to do.

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Mike

  21. Why do I need Things?

Well, if I were to say my life were currently falling apart, that would be a lie. I am not cowering under piles of sticky notes, nor are my social or professional lives crumbling.

So too would me my saying I have tried everything out there and have been repeatedly disappointed by the alternatives. Who honestly has the time to try every single option made available for consumers like me?

In honesty, I’d say I need Things because I’ve read some wonderful reviews and am eager to use it, but am too cheap to buy it for myself. The notes I currently write do alright, but I’m always open to new and better methods, and I’ve read Things is pretty special.

    Good luck with your selections!

    ~Evan

  22. The real reason i will need Things is because I am truly forgetful. I just got a macbook and I don’t have a application that can help me remember my tasks what I want to do. There are loads of things on my mind and sometimes I miss out 1 or 2 tasks that I want to do for that day. I am glad there is such a software Things and I look forward to using it. I believe it will solve my forgetfulness and make my life more fulfilling by making use of my time wisely. With Things on Mac and Iphone, I believe now I am able to go that extra mile for someone or something that I have forgetten in my life.

  23. Thank you to everyone who has entered.
We will be announcing the winner shortly. :D
