Introducing EmojiTrack: Tracking Twitter’s Emoji Users, One Tweet at a Time.

Posted on January 30th, 2009. Written by Arron.

Ever since Emoji hit iPhone and iPod touch, it’s been a smash-hit sensation. By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard of the Emoji-enabling applications on the AppStore. Not surprisingly, because of them, Emoji is spreading it’s way around the world, fast.

We thought It’d be a good idea (and actually quite interesting) to track just how far Emoji has and is traveling. So we are, and if you want to know more, hit the jump! …

We think we’ve started something fun, and if you want to get involved, cool! Head on over to RazorianFly.com/emojitrack/. But what’s this? A constantly updated list of Emoji-crazed people on Twitter?! ..

What is Emoji

“Emoji (絵文字, Emoji?) is the Japanese name for the picture characters or emoticons used in Japanese wireless messages and web pages. Originally meaning pictograph, the word literally means e “picture” + moji “letter”. The characters are used much like emoticons elsewhere, but a wider range is provided, and the icons are standardized and built into the handsets.”

The Challenge:
Yesterday twitter user @iPhone_Reviews approached me with a pointless, but at the same time absolutely great idea. Why not create an updated list (similar to @TimHaines Dev count) of all the iPhone and iPod touch Emoji users, who are on Twitter. So being the canny lot that we are, we’ve called it ‘I Use Emoji Outside of Japan, and I’m on Twitter!’

What you need to know:
Firstly, you need to use Emoji in tweets regularly. We’re interested in finding people that other people can have Emoji littered conversations with! You will only be added to the list on contacting me or the other 3 RF editors on Twitter. We won’t add you if you don’t want to be on the list. Being on the list results in your full Twitter username being posted as an entry, and linking directly out to your Twitter account. Sometime we randomly send promo codes out over DMs (Direct Messages). Being on the list will raise your chance of receiving iPhone promo codes from us. :D

When will it be Updated, Constantly?
The list is simply for fun, and we’ll be updating it every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday for the foreseeable future.

How do I let you guys know that I use Emoji too? (Add me to the list!)
Simple. Follow us at @razorianfly and @Reply or DM us showing your an Emoji addict.

This operation is not affiliated or associated with Apple Inc or Twitter in any way.
Advertising on EmojiTrack is available to developers, and if your interested email me.

Enjoy, spread the word,
and thanks for reading!

Arron

Hi, I'm Arron. I'm 20 and I am currently working as a freelance graphic designer and blogger. While managing RazorianFly, I currently also write for AppBoy.com, have previously written for 148Apps.com and have been approached by many others. I've been into graphic design for about 7 years now, and now offer iPhone and iPad Interface Design to developers professionally. Along with James, I also co-founded our brilliant new shortening service, RFly.Me. I'm very much tuned into both the App Store and Apple in general. I like the design, presentation and clarity of a product. If it doesn't cut it I'll tell you straight. I'm on Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo and Facebook!
