During this review I compare Trapped to another survival horror game titled Resident Evil. If you’ve never played it then I apologize for the comparisons. You can check out some of the gameplay here. From one gamer to another if you haven’t played any of the older Resident Evil’s your missing out. Sorry for the long note. Lets get this party started.
Story
You’re Dr. Adams working with the Bio Engineering Company MI3. You and a partner are trying to make the perfect soldier when something goes wrong. The testing turns to crap and every subject becomes “infected”. Your on your way to cancel the project and leave the building when your ambushed by 3 unstoppable “infected”. The attack doesn’t go so well and, you black out. The good Doctor wakes up in a jail cell with amnesia. From there you gain full control and its up to you to escape this nightmare. The story seems uninteresting at first but, there’s plenty of twists and turns to keep the player entertained.
Controls & General Gameplay
You control Mr. Doctor Man by a virtual D-Pad. This would work great if he didn’t stomp around like The Hulk. Since he walks very very slow and, most of the rooms have objects you have to get by this makes things clumsy. Com2us released an update to fix this and allow a run feature but, even when running he’s slow. I wouldn’t stress this so much if it wasn’t a survival horror game but, Its like my grandma trying to escape a zombie invasion. Its not so much a problem as an annoyance though. Your always getting plenty of ammo so you can blast your way through the undead as slow was you want.

If you’ve ever played Resident Evil (or any other survival horror title) you should be pretty familiar with the gameplay structure. Shoot your way through a couple rooms to get a key that you need to unlock an earlier door. Do this until you get to a puzzle and rinse and repeat. For me personally survival horror is high on my list of favorite genre’s so it never gets stale. The player gets plenty of guns to murder hordes of zombies with including a standard pistol, shotgun, and a stun gun. There’s no health packs or first aid kits to pick up in Trapped. Scattered around MI3 are health stations on the wall. Simply walk up to one and your completely restored. Ammo is everywhere as well with a catch of course. You’ll be slaughtering the undead in a dark room and you’ll notice one drop something. You need to run to the nearest light switch, flip it on and, quickly get your item before they flicker off. I guess even though you can completely see everything in the room its too dark to pick up ammo.
Graphics & Presentation
Just like in most survival horror games you get a menu “device” that lets you keep track of your inventory. For Trapped : Undead Infection this “device” is the PDA. Inside this convenient gadget you’ll be able to check out your weapons, a map, files, etc. It is handy for letting you keep track of everything but, its just downright ugly. So Doctor, your company is manufacturing zombies but, you can’t afford cool PDA’s? The player barely has to go into the device anyway since your health and ammo are on screen at all times but, its map is very useful if you lose track of things.
This is a 2-D, 16 bit game. So graphics aren’t going to be its strongest point but, they do their job. Nothing really looks bad, and slowdown and framerate issues’ were non-existant.
Overall
With an interesting story, solid gameplay, and a decent effort for completion Trapped : Undead Infection is easily worth your $1.99. Price would have played a much bigger role if it itself were higher. If you dig horror or action games this should be one of your next purchases.
