Little Red Sled [HD Video]

Their third installment comes after their highly successful word games Imangi [App Store] and Word Squares [App Store]. Yep, I’m talking about Imangi Studios, but their 3rd title is not a word game at all … far from it.

A cute little title, Little Red Sled sees you taking the role of a young character on a sled. The game throws you into sledding down the Swiss alps to collect presents just in time for Christmas! Described by Imangi as “.. that White Christmas you never got“, Little Red Sled is an exhilarating sled ride down an iced over mountain.

Gameplay
Described above, the game sees you riding a sled down some icy mountains in order to collect presents and treats in time for Christmas celebrations. Entering the game you will find a menu which depicts the mountain itself. By clicking on a certain point on the map, you can then choose from the available levels which level you want to play. Your sled is controlled via accelerometer which seems to fit the game perfectly, but I can’t help but think that there should be an option to control it by touch too. Your aim on Little Red Sled is simple, grab the minimum required amount of presents before you skid past the finish post.

On each level played you will have a minimum amount of presents you are required to collect in order to unlock and progress to the next level, adding a little challenge to Little Red Sled’s overall gameplay.

Music
Little Red Sled is one of those rare titles in which it’s backing track has been created completely in-house. Because of this, each of the tracks used in the game have a sort of fun-loving feeling to them, as if a lot of care and attention went into them – especially so on the game’s main title. Below is just that. Composed and performed by Natalia Luckyanova herself (@Nattylux), this is the (fast-paced) main title theme of Imangi Studios Little Red Sled.

Visuals
Little Red Sled is for little and big kids alike. The game is very child-oriented not just based on the difficulty of goals on each level, but also on the visuals themselves. Their admittedly simple, some might say too so. Visually the title features slightly jagged graphics consisting of simple geometric shapes. Maybe this was the original intent of Imangi Studios? If I was to be honest, I personally think it could be smoothed off in a few parts. Animation wise, frame-rate and graphical movement of the sled is pretty much spot on, and with all that said, Little Red Sled is visually vibrant!

Overall
There’s no doubting a lot of hard work and effort by Imangi Studios has gone into making this game ready for market, but somehow it’s missing something for me – something I can’t quite put my finger on. There’s one thing for sure, with it’s subtle in-game phrases, this is a game designed to make you feel good about yourself.

With it’s mixture of 3D graphics and child-friendly sounds, Little Red Sled is definitely worth a look. Whether it would stay on my device sync permanently is another question. Don’t get me wrong, I like the game – I do, but currently (for me) I think it lacks a bit of solid replay value.

Current Status: Worth a Look ..
