Must Haves: Dr. Awesome, Burnball, TTR 2 and Rolando.

At the start of the year we gave you an insight into some of what we thought were the best applications to have hit the App Store. Three months later, What apps have our attention now?

This time I’ve highlighted Dr. Awesome, Burnball, TTR2 (Tap Tap Revenge 2) and ngmoco’s Rolando as being iPhone and iPod touch must haves. Hit the jump to find out why I digg them so much, and why you won’t want to neglect from having them in your own growing App Store library …

Dr. Awesome [App Store]
Designed and published by ngmoco, Dr. Awesome is a fun, modern and visually rich take on Jezzball. Using information from your ‘Contacts’ app the game will admit members of your family or friends to the operating table.

Using the accelerometer you aim to save the said person by cutting away at the infected cells. Careful though! – The more virus-infected cells you manage to cure, the stronger the different type of virus will become to defeat.

Burnball [App Store]
Talking of games which remind me of Jezzball, Tim Haines’ Burnball which has literally taken the world by storm, involves using the accelerometer to guide Roy around the screen, all the while avoiding Dr. Evil’s evil robotic droids.

The aim is to colour in 75-90% of the screen in order to progress to the next level, although it isn’t as easy as it sounds. A great strategic-based game, suitable for all the family.

If you haven’t joined our Burnball Tribe yet. Do it. Although the 30 Days of Burnball is officially over, the 5 sites involved are in talks with Tim about keeping it running, so stay tuned guys!

Tap Tap Revenge 2 [App Store]
The pinnacle of music-based entertainment. Designed by established developers Tapulous Inc comes the second in the TTR series. Tap Tap Revenge 2 is a Guitar Hero-like title in which you can wirelessly download and tap along to your favourite tracks using preset beat patterns.

As notes fly at you from the distance, your aim to tap them in order and as they pass the strike line. TTR 2 features a revolutionary new graphics OpenGL engine, which I have to say is comparable to nothing else on the store to date.

Don’t fancy playing alone? Just turn on ‘Wifi’ and hit go online. You’ll be able to tap along with users from across the world. Instantly. With global high scores, accelerometer based beats, and sharp, clean visuals – Tap Tap Revenge 2 is definitely worth a look.

Missed the first in the series? Check out Tap Tap Revenge [App Store], and if you want to rock the dance floor, I recommend picking up Tapulous’ Tap Tap Dance [App Store] [Review].

Rolando [App Store] [Review]
Designed by HandCircus and published by ngmoco, Rolando is a modern take on Sony’s hit sensation Loco Roco. Literally months in the making, and one of if not the most anticipated title since the App Store debuted, Rolando sees you guiding ‘rolandos’ around a vector-based environment full of good and evil.

Entering the game you’ll be presented with a 3D pop-up map, and from here you’ll have the option to enter any one of 36 levels available to you. During any level you must select the rolando you wish to move. To do this you simply touch whichever rolando you want to move. This then becomes the ‘active’ rolando.

Guiding the little rolandos around the various worlds your aim is you complete each world, by reaching the requirements of each sub-level. An overall fun, re-playable title, and for us – definitely an App Store must have! (Especially at £2.99 from it’s original £5.99) ..

Read more into why I like Rolando here. :D
