Dragon Panic

Flares. Super Mario. Vinyl. Retro, there’s something we all love in one way or another from back in the day and here’s another to remind us of those retro games we just can’t seem to get enough of. Dragon Panic from Binary Square and Clickgamer recently hit the App Store sporting retro graphics, music and effects.

The objective of Dragon Panic is simple and addictive, as the game starts swords, arrows, potions and shields come hailing down. Your mission is to shoot them down with a fireball before they fall down and hit your stone floor, if the object hit a piece of the floor once it’ll simply crack it but if it gets hit twice it’ll break to reveal the lava below!

As you’ll find out when playing the game, so of the falling objects have abilites such as hitting a red potion will clear all the other objects on the screen while blue potions replace a missing stone, be sure not to miss the falling potions! Both Blaze and Berny can only fire at one set angle, so getting to know exactly where your shot is going to hit is the key to sucess! If Berny or Blaze get hit by one of the falling objects, its game over.

Dragon Panic’s control system a perfect and really makes use of the iPhones hardware, using the accelormeter to move Blaze or Berny left and right. Firing at the falling objects in extremely easy, just simply tap anywhere on the screen. It couldn’t be simpler and easier to just pick up and play.

As I’ve said in articles before, I think all games should come complete with ‘Global Online High Scores’ and sure enough Dragon Panic includes this feature as well! The overall feel of this game is great, a very polished title carrying the charm of a retro game in a very iPhone native way!

Dragon Panic is a fantastic pick up and play game that you’ll find yourself going back to time after time. Even though its a small game is has a very native and solid feel to it making it the perfect retro fix for your iPhone and iPod Touch. Not only is the a ‘must have’ for any fan of retro games, It also has a great appeal to non-retro gamers like myself.
