First Look: Golvellius: Valley of Doom for iPhone

Posted on July 23rd, 2009. Written by Arron.

This is definitely one for the retro among us. Originally published in 1987 and licensed by Sega, Golvellius was (at the time) described by the market as the Sega Master System’s answer to The Legend of Zelda for being one of the best adventure games of the console.

Back then, it was recognized for its magnificent graphics and its deep story. Today, game development studio DotEmu who specialise in bringing retro titles back to modern platforms, announced it’s bring Golvellius back – and this time to iPhone and iPod touch.

The guys at DotEmu were kind enough to hook us up with some artwork as well as some screenshots from the upcoming game.

Golvellius is an action adventure game for the Japanese MSX home computer system that plays much like The Legend of Zelda. It was developed by Compile and released in 1987.

This video of the game running on the Sega Master System gives you a rough idea of gameplay:

A retro RPG, this game is based on a fantasy word in which the evil king Golvellius is terrorizing the valley with his army. It is up to you (the brave knight) to save the day! Slay the enemies and use the gold to get powerful weapons, equipments and enchanted items.

We can’t wait to get our hands on a copy of this, just for the retro factor. We’ll have a full review for you once it hits. Golvellius: Valley of Doom is set to hit worldwide for iPhone and iPod touch, in August 2009.

I've been into graphic design for about 7 years now, and now offer iPhone and iPad Interface Design to developers professionally. Along with James, I also co-founded our brilliant new shortening service, RFly.Me. I'm very much tuned into both the App Store and Apple in general.
