Checkout Modern Combat: Sandstorm in the App Store Now for $6.99

This week has been quite big in terms of launches, with Konami, Gameloft, Pangea and Electronic Arts all getting in on the action. This has been the hardest week so far to pick out just a few titles, but I have managed to get some. Here are the lucky few that I believe are standouts apps released this week.

Boggle – $2.99

Boggle is the latest real life game brought to our touch screen by Electronic Arts. This time its the world famous Boggle, which is a timed game where you have to create as many words as possible from a 4×4 list of letters. The game involves quick thinking and a good knowledge of words to get as many words as possible in this very hectic game. Boggle has brilliant graphics which are really smooth, perfect for a clean game with no interruptions.

Boggle is a very simple game that is similar to the popular Ng:Moco game WordFu. The electronic version features many different modes and skills that the original can’t give you, such as the power flip and makes for a more advanced game is you choose so. Boggle is made for all people, with a self score mode for those who enjoy that to the straight out classic game. Boggle keeps a freaky number of stats about your games and has everything needed to improve your game. A heap of fun, worth the $2.99 easily.

Enigmo 2 – $2.99

Enigmo 2 is the sequel to the very popular game from PangeaSoft. The aim of the game is to get the many lasers, drips and more into their respective ‘jars’ as such. Enigmo was very successful and did extremely well on the App Store. Enigmo 2 follows the same principal as the original but has had many graphical enhancements with the game going completely 3D and other special enhancements for those lucky enough to play it on their iPhone 3G S.

Enigmo 2 is a very challenging game that I found to get quite hard quite early on in the game. It doesn’t take long before you are trying to control many different reflectors lasers and water droplets on the same level, while trying to finish it quickly. The 3D style of Enigmo 2 works extremely well, with the ability of making more complex levels than that found in the original. I found a steep learning curve for first time players, but this game was designed to challenge your brain. Worth the $2.99 if you enjoy this game style.

Modern Combat: Sandstorm – $6.99

Modern Combat: Sandstorm is kind of version 3.0 of the previous Gameloft games Brothers In Arms and Terminator Salvation. Played just the same way, Modern Combat has been improved in all ways possible to make it one of the best games I have ever played on the iPhone. This game is so smooth and features amazing graphics that are so spectacular they will often distract you from the game itself. Pretty much the best shooter out there.

Modern Combat: Sandstorm has been a real eye opener of how good Gameloft’s games actually are. I have felt that they have always been a peg below Electronic Arts, but this game is right up there with the best EA can offer. Around 2 hours of beautiful yet extremely busy gameplay welcomes you as complete Mission Sandstorm. Once again Gameloft offers brilliant cutscenes and voices with nothing really flawed at all in this game. If you want a game to show off on your iPhone, this is definitely one of the ones to get.

Other Notable Releases this week Include:

Krazy Kart Racing by Konami

NEX by Starbyte

Stay tuned next week for the fourth installment of ‘The Week That Was’. If you have any suggestions to improve the segment please either email me at damon@razorianfly.com or submit a comment below. Thanks! :D
