Sticky: The Week That Was: 19/09/09 – 25/09/09

Posted on September 26th, 2009. Written by Damon.

This week has been quiet compared to some past weeks on the App Store, but still I have managed to track down some shiny pearls that are worthy of a mention in this segment. Check out what games are hot this week below.

Real Soccer 2010 – $6.99

This week seems to be about games and their 2010 edition sequels. Real Soccer 2010 is sequel of Gameloft’s successful title Real Soccer 2009. While this game has some serious competition with X2 Football arguably being the better game and FIFA 10 coming out October 2nd, it has still been successful. This game doesn’t have the best graphics and from what I can tell the improvements are a big leap from what was in the 2009 edition.

I still don’t believe that Real Soccer 2010 is better than X2 Football, with the controls certainly still being easier to handle in X2. With the amount of contest however, Real Soccer blows it out of the water with 400+ teams. I feel this game will have limited success compared to Real Soccer 2009 with EA’s FIFA 10 coming out in a week and from early screenshots & details will absolutely blow this and X2 out of the water. If you love soccer though why not have both?

Baseball Superstars 2010 – $5.99

Baseball Superstars is this time the sequel of Gamevil’s Baseball Superstars 2009. This sequel has given great improvements to some aspects of the game. The graphics, characters and storyline in league mode seems to be enhanced but the gameplay has taken a massive change. The game seems to be alot harder than 2009, even on easy mode. Also as you improve the game difficulty ramps up and the reports are saying that its really frustrating.

This game seems like it is more of a challenge to complete compared to the past game. A great enhancement to gameplay though is your personal coach who gives you tips, G-Points and more as you progress through the game. This is a great move by Gamevil who are excellent at RPG like stories. I will be interested to see how this game takes off, arguably being the best baseball arcade game on handheld consoles and taking this massive change to improve.

Lumines- Touch Fusion – $2.99

The only time I have played a PSP game was when my friend gave me a go at GTA: Vice City Stories. Lumines is apparently a huge hit on the PSP and there has been a lot of hype about this game being released. The game on first impressions looks like a fancy Tetris game, but it is a lot more than that with many different game modes and ways to play Lumines. There is one big problem with Lumines however and thats the poorly adapted control system.

The controls are often unresponsive and do not work anywhere near the standard that they should. I have played a couple of games and this game seems to be have a lot of replayability and each game goes for quite a long time. There are multiple skin packs but I am not sure how many you can get for free as one game pack is available as downloadable content. I suggest waiting for this game to fix the controls before picking up this game though.

Other Notable Releases this week Include:

Horror Racing by Chillingo

BMW Sauber F1 Team Racing by Artificial Life

Haunted 3D Rollercoaster Rush by Digital Chocolate

Stay tuned next week for the sixth installment of ‘The Week That Was’. If you have any suggestions to improve the segment please either email me at damon@razorianfly.com or submit a comment below. Thanks! :D
