When Sneezies hit the App Store last year, we were all glued to our iPhone’s and iPod’s for hours on end, popping bubbles to save those little guys.

Now Gavin Bowman and his team at Retro Dreamer are back with another game ‘EyeGore’s EyeBlast’ providing an innovative take on the ‘Match 3′ genre, boasting hand drawn graphics and that same addictive game play that keeps us constantly going back to Sneezies!

As I’ve mentioned in the past I’ve never been a massive fan of puzzle games, that was until I got hold of Sneezies and Smiles over a year ago! As soon as I caught wind that this app hit the store, I snapped it up immediately and after just an ten minutes with EyeGore I knew this game was going to have me addicted just like its predecessor, Sneezies!

EyeGore features two game modes, challenge and puzzle. I must say that I found the puzzle mode to be my favourite, boasting five sections each with six stages to complete! In EyeGore you operate a cannon loaded with multi-coloured balls, you have to match at latest three balls on the spindle to knock them off! To beat the game you must clear spindle, this is were the game can get both tedious and tricky. The levels really vary in the difficulty, some you can complete in under a minute and others will have you frustrated for hours!

Along with a gameplay style I’ve never encountered before, Retrodreamer brought a new iPhone Social Network into the equation with ‘AGON‘. AGON brings in-game achievements, integration with FaceBook and Twitter and of course, your friends. As with all games, having social integration is a must and AGON works perfectly, its great to see that companies are still stepping up the the plate with iPhone Social Network software.

All in all, with beautiful hand drawn graphics, quirky sound effects and gameplay that will be sure to keep you playing for hours (and possibly give you neck ache in the progress). EyeGore is a must for puzzle fans of all ages and for those who like myself aren’t massive on the puzzle genre, give it a try, I can assure you, it’ll change your mind!

When asked to take a look at Eyeblast I wasn’t sure what to expect having never played Sneezies I had no knowledge of the developers or their style. I was a bit apprehensive to learn it was another “match three” game, I’ve played more than my fair share, and whilst some were a delight, some have been to dull to mention.

Thankfully though, Eyeblast falls into the “delight” category by putting a different spin on the game, the simple fact that you’re shooting eyeballs is appealing enough (in a strange kind of way), but add to the great gameplay mechanics and you’re surely onto a winner. I love the use of gravity within the game, and found myself tilting my iPhone from side to side in order to build up a big enough swing to be able to pull of the shots I wanted. The gameplay is challenging, almost to the point of frustrating at times, but never seems to cross that line that makes you want to hurl your iPhone at the wall and scream.

The control scheme is simple, but not as precise as I would have liked, some shots are extremely tricky and I haven’t been able to pull of these shots with any degree of consistency, but whilst this can be frustrating you quickly find ways to work around it and I simply found myself thinking more about my shots so I could avoid these situations in the future.

Overall, this game is highly entertaining and well worth the money. If you’re after a new take on the old genre, this is definitely one worth picking up. I got my copy of the game in order to do this review, but this is one that will actually still be on my iPhone and that’ll I’ll still be playing long after you’ve forgotten these words.
