We Rule. Now Available Worldwide.

Posted on March 20th, 2010. Written by Arron.

If you happen to be a fan of ngmoco and what they bring to both the iPhone (and iPod touch), you’ll almost certainly know that whenever they release a new application onto the App Store, they’ll first release it to iTunes Canada, only. This has resulted in all sorts of crazy, including some fans even creating Canadian accounts just get the titles before the rest of the world.

Its so far unclear why the company chooses to do this, however it has been bantered around that this is a “systems check” to make sure the worldwide release goes as smoothly as possible.

Today that restriction is lifted, with ngmoco announcing via Twitter We Rule is now available across all iTunes stores worldwide. Similar to the highly popular Facebook phenomenon Farmville, We Rule sees you trying to build your own kingdom. Falling into ngmoco’s new ‘Freemium’ category, the game ticks over while you live your normal everyday life. When crops are ready for harvesting, a new wood order is ready for delivery or a new item is unlocked, you are notified via push notification to return to the game and manage your kingdom.

Plus+ enabled, you get to share your kingdom happenings with others, with your friends being able to oversee your creation and use your resources to gain materials for their own kingdom. While the game can be played for free for the most part, special elixir called Mojo which speeds up the growth of your crops and ultimately increases the rate at which you can earn gold coins, can be bought via in-app purchase.

On the whole, a fun and immersible title. One which is comparable in both quality of gameplay and visuals to the companies first person shooter Eliminate Pro, which we profiled back in November – and their recently released offering, GodFinger. Look out for our review of that, soon!

Hi, I'm Arron. I'm 20 and I am currently working as a freelance graphic designer and blogger. While managing RazorianFly, I currently also write for AppBoy.com, have previously written for 148Apps.com and have been approached by many others. I've been into graphic design for about 7 years now, and now offer iPhone and iPad Interface Design to developers professionally. Along with James, I also co-founded our brilliant new shortening service, RFly.Me. I'm very much tuned into both the App Store and Apple in general. I like the design, presentation and clarity of a product. If it doesn't cut it I'll tell you straight. I'm on Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo and Facebook!

  1. I've been playing We Rule for about 2 weeks now thanks to an article about creating accounts in iTunes that are not from where you live.

It's clear that ngmoco:) opens their games up to Canada only to start with so that they can do a sort of closed beta to make sure it's ready for prime time. Unfortunately, the game wasn't quite ready yet. The We Rule servers have been down since this morning.

There are other in-game issues like farms that say they are bad when they are really ready to harvest. Memory issues with iPhone 3G's at least and occasional crashes.

They have updated the game once, but clearly there is still a need for more updates. However, the game mostly plays well.

We Rule is a great game for playing for about 10 minutes, then setting it down for a period of time so that your crops and other items can grow/accumulate/etc… This game is pretty easy to play without having to spend a dime. However, if you want to gain levels very quickly, you can buy vials of “Mojo” to complete tasks very quickly. As I said, I have been playing for about 2 weeks and have managed to get to level 15 without spending a penny. (I couldn't since I don't have an iTunes account that can spend money)

I personally love ngmoco:)'s “fremium” game model. It allows folks on a limited budget to play some amazing games that would otherwise cost them more than they might be able to afford.

GodFinger, ngmoco:)'s other new title, came out in Canada a couple of days after We Rule did, so I suspect that the rest of the world will see GodFinger arriving shortly.

  2. I really don't like this game. Its super buggy for me. GodFinger is way better.

  3. It's buggy, but at least it's still playable. The servers are getting hammered now since they went international / world-wide.

Still, I'm able to do the things I need to do in my kingdom when needed. It only takes a few minutes so I don't see too many issues when I am in the game for that short of a period of time.

It's mostly when I travel to other kingdoms to try to initiate trade with them.
