If the idea of being your own boss and managing malls all over the city sounds something you’re interested in, then Create A Mall by 99Games is for you.

You play Kelly, the manager in charge. After a lot of bad luck Kelly has been brought in to change all that. To improve the popularity of the malls and get customers flocking in. Its your job to help Kelly make the right decisions and expand the businesses.

There are six different cities altogether and you have to build malls in all of them. As you do there will be different tasks to achieve before you can move on to the next. The first three games are the tutorial to get you to understand the gameplay and control. They can be a little hard to understand at first but once you have finished those three it does start to sink in! Each mall has different goals to achieve. It could be you have to purchase a perfume shop and a shoe shop. Or that you have to earn a daily income of $20,000. Each level has a different objective to complete. There is no time limit but you can’t move on until you have completed each part.

The gameplay is fairly straight forward once you know what each button does. When you first start you have a few clothes shops. To open another shop you click on lease and store and it tells you how much you need to buy it. So for example a clothing store needs at least 1 worker, 150 resources (bricks) and $150. If you meet all the requirements you can buy it. If you don’t you have to either buy more workers under the labor tab or resources under the resources tab. Most of the time you won’t have enough money to purchase these things straight away so you then have to watch your shops bringing in the cash and if you upgrade them as well they will earn you more as they become popular. When you have enough cash you then purchase the shop you required. That is basically what you do for each level at each mall, purchase and upgrade.

It isn’t all as easy as it sounds though. As you work your way through the levels it does get harder and more of a challenge. You have to plan your shops in the right place. If you put them too close to each other and they are the same kind it may become unpopular and you will lose sales. Luckily if this does happen there is the option to demolish it and start again.

A little extra perk within the game is that you earn rewards for working so hard. Each time you complete your level you earn store credits. With these credits you can buy clothing, jewellery and office decorations. You even get trophies to place on your shelf!

Once you get more into the game you realise what works to achieve high scores and cash so if you want to replay a level so you can earn the expert badge you can do. There is also the option to check local high scores to see how well you are doing. If you fancy tweeting your success on Twitter as well you can do.

The game is very addictive and challenging. Each level is a good length as well and not all that easy to achieve which is an excellent aspect. The graphics are colourful and clear. The buttons may be slightly too small for some people and you could end up pressing the wrong key but for me it was fine. The music and sound effects can be turned off should you want to. I turned the music off and just had the sound effects which added to the whole experience of the game.

It is quite a girlie app what with all the shopping for shoes and perfume but it is not to say the males out there wouldn’t like it as it is a great challenging game.

  1. Thanks for the wonderful review Jane! You rightly said that Create A Mall is quite a girly app, but sure enough if you enjoy Simulation games, you'll love this one. The game lets a player enjoy a slow paced game or frantic one if they want to earn an expert badge in each level.
A recent update added Global High Score boards so if you're really good at creating malls, you can try and make it to the top of the board.

    Cheers!!!
