Let’s face it, ABC’s application for iPad is truly fantastic. The ability to effortlessly stream hit TV shows the likes of which include LOST, Flash Forward, Desperate Housewives, V, Modern Family and more, straight to your iPad is highly desirable. But by default, attempting to play this content outside of the US results in an error message.

It turns out, this barrier is fairly easy to circumvent, but you will have to put your hand in your pocket to do so. For those not in the know, the service you can use to do this is called VPN or Virtual Private Network. Basically, once you buy access to one of these special servers, you can setup a VPN network on your iPad to mask your IP address with a US one. This means US services like Hulu, ABC and Netflix can’t detect you’re outside the US.

Some might say, and easy as .. ABC.

Here’s How

Step 1. Purchase any PPTP VPN server package from StrongVPN.com

Step 2. Activate your package with an online representative (when available).

Step 3. Once activated, you’ll receive an e-mail with your VPN login details. These include: The VPN server address, login (username) and password.

Step 4. On your iPad navigate to General > Network > VPN.

Step 5. Tap ‘Add VPN Configuration’.

Step 6. On the ‘PPTP’ tab begin to enter your VPN server details. The settings should be inputted as follows: Your server address is the description. Your server address is the Server. In the ‘Account’ field place your username StrongVPN gave you. RSA SecurID should be set to OFF. Your password is the password issued to you by StrongVPN. Encryption should be set to AUTO. Send all Traffic should be set to ON. No proxy settings are needed.

Step 7. Hit ‘Save’.

Step 8. You should now see the connection you created displayed below ‘Choose a Configuration’. Make sure the connection is selected and marked with a tick.

Step 9. Once you’re happy everything is in order, hit the ‘ON/OFF‘ option beside ‘VPN‘. This will activate your brand new VPN server connection. Once connected you’ll see a little icon with the letters ‘VPN’ appear beside the Wi-Fi indicator in the top left of your iPad’s screen.

Step 10. Download ABC for iPad, and Enjoy.
