Zombie Wonderland is out now on the App Store $0.99
We have a brand new sponsor, @Chillingo! Look out for this segment to be continued for months to come. Thanks guys!
Last week we had WWDC and a small number of announcements (Farmville anyone?) but this week is off the hook with titles being thrown at us from all directions with E3. After we dodge the small Xbox 360 & Kinect, PS3 & Move and the 3DS announcements, we find ourselves with some fun iPhone titles coming soon and now available. The biggest shock was announced at WWDC with Guitar Hero but fun installments from other developers kept the App Store ticking along. So, stop pre-ordering Call of Duty: Black Ops already and just check out what we have in store for you this week!
Guitar Hero - $2.99
The App Store is a breeding ground for many music titles. After the success of smaller titles like Tap Tap Revenge, Riddim Ribbon, Guitar Rock Tour, B-Boy Beats and many more, the big players have jumped on the band wagon. First we received Rock Band by EA but we finally have the game that started it all, Guitar Hero. Before Guitar Hero we had Guitar Rock Tour which featured the same graphics and Beatrider with the same style of play. When @Activision talked at Apple’s Keynote last week they announced that Guitar Hero was live and for a very cheap price.

Guitar Hero brings all the console moves such as slides and whammy and brings them to iOS for the first time. The game comes with 6 songs and more available in $1.99 packs that have 3 songs in them. The game has been excellently ported to the App Store with a fun game that has put a spin on every other music title available. This game is better suited to newer devices and may lag a bit on old devices. Instead of making us fork out $10 for a heap of songs, they set the price low so we can all experience it and buy more as we feel the need to. Guitar Hero is fun once again!
2XL TrophyLite Rally - $7.99
2XL are by far the best developers to go to if you want an exhilarating drive through terrain on anything other than a car. After the Supercross, ATV’s and SnoMobiles it seems they are getting closer to having to include cars in their games. TrophyLite Rally takes you on an all-out race in a sort of dune buggy as you progress through a career mode winning races and new cars. This game lets you control the car from the bonnet view only, something which I don’t particularly like being forced to use. The game is quite fun but it is seriously hard to progress through.

I might be missing something but I can’t get better than 5th in the 1st stage and everything else is unlocked from me. The cars available seem to have no extra speed and there is nothing I can do to improve my time. If someone knows what to do please tell me, but from a buyers perspective this game is already a waste. The time trial racing is fun and would be enjoyable if I knew how to progress. Others might have more luck, but it is quite a risk at $7.99. Maybe wait for a lite version if you aren’t sure about this game, my experiences haven’t been too great.
Zombie Wonderland – $0.99
Zombie Wonderland is Chillingo latest title that seems to be a mash-up of 3 games. With Minigore style graphics, the zombie theme and ‘defend your house’ gameplay of COD Zombies, you can’t really go wrong. The aim of this game is to shoot all the zombies before they come into your Grandma’s house or deal with them if they do break in. A survival mode and career mode is available that lets you progressively defeat harder and bigger onslaughts of zombies. While it doesn’t look anywhere near as good as COD Zombies, for the low price you can’t really be disappointed.

Zombie Wonderland is a fun little game that is excellent to play for 5-10 minutes. I was hoping for some dual stick controls but sadly to shoot you just have to tap on the zombies. You appreciate why this is the case when you are almost getting overrun with zombies. With heaps of different weapons and the survival mode to keep you playing after completing the story, this will keep you entertained for a long time. If Halo, COD: Black Ops and the Kinect have you too broke to afford COD: Zombies, then this is an excellent time waster to play with instead.
Other Notable Releases this week Include:
Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter by Tatem Games
The A-Team by Real Networks
Pac-Match Party by Namco
Grokion by Alexander Orozco
Stay tuned next week for the 34th installment of ‘The Week That Was’. If you have any suggestions to improve the segment please either email me at damon@razorianfly.com or submit a comment below. Thanks!
