iOS4 – Now Available Worldwide

Posted on June 21st, 2010. Written by Arron.

The 4th iteration to the world’s most powerful mobile operating system is now available worldwide.

iOS4 which features over 100 new end-user features and over 1000 new APIs for developers is now available for download via iTunes.

The new update features the ability to:

- Multitask with third-party applications
- Create folders for different genre of apps
- Adds a unified inbox to the built-in Mail.app
- Adds the ability to create iPod playlists right on the device
- Adds a 5x digital zoom to the camera app
- Sees the addition of Apple’s pioneering ‘Tap to Focus’ technology for video
- Faces and places are now added to Photos.app
- Change your homescreen wallpaper
- Gift apps using the on-device App Store
- Built-in spell checking is now present OS-wide
- Adds support for wireless keyboards

With the following drawbacks:

After being in beta for approximately 6-8 weeks now, we’ve recently been playing around with the GM (Gold Master) candidate seed sent to us by Apple – and well … we’ll say it now, we really think you’ll really digg iOS4.

Just a reminder that this software update will only work with iPod touch Generation 2 and Generation 3, iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4. iOS4 does not run on iPod touch First Generation due to its hardware not being able to support the OS’ features, and although iOS4 works on iPhone 3G Apple states not all features will be present, again due to hardware limitations.

iTunes 9.2 which now available for download here, is required to install iOS4.

Arron

Hi, I'm Arron. I'm 20 and I am currently working as a freelance graphic designer and blogger. While managing RazorianFly, I currently also write for AppBoy.com, have previously written for 148Apps.com and have been approached by many others. I've been into graphic design for about 7 years now, and now offer iPhone and iPad Interface Design to developers professionally. Along with James, I also co-founded our brilliant new shortening service, RFly.Me. I'm very much tuned into both the App Store and Apple in general. I like the design, presentation and clarity of a product. If it doesn't cut it I'll tell you straight. I'm on Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo and Facebook!
