Apple Fan Puts Up iPhone 4 Launch Day Store Reservation For Sale On Ebay – [Update: Useless as Photo ID Required]

Posted on June 22nd, 2010. Written by Arron.

Last Tuesday, 600,000 crazy Apple fans placed their pre-orders for Apple’s iPhone 4. Pre-orders placed through Apple.com came in 2 flavours.

You could either choose to have delivery to door for June 24th (which due to demand later turned into July 14th), or order an in-store reservation meaning that you could pick-up your iPhone 4 from the selected Apple store on launch day.

In the unlikely event you failed to turn up, the store would place the phone back into their sales stock.

Today, Twitter user @BudgieUK points to an ebay listing started by seller nschofie for an “Apple iPhone 4 Launch Day Reservation – 32GB Unlocked”.

The exact listing which closed at a winning bid of £112.00 was found here and read:

“Reservation to pick up next Thursday 24th June, the launch day!

Electronic order form will be emailed to your provided account as soon as payment is received. This phone is in a huge demand, this was pre ordered as soon as it was made available. This phone will be held by apple until close of business on the 24th June 2010. If you do not collect it on launch day it will be sold and this reservation purchase will have no value anymore. But they hold it all day so no need to queue.

Collection starts from 8am from the official Apple store in Brent Cross. Once you hand over the registration I send you, you can:

i) choose to buy the iPhone 4 32GB black sim free (£599) and put in any sim card you wish, here or abroad.

ii) get a new contract (or upgrade an existing contract) with Vodafone (£0-£280), Orange (£29-£319) or O2 (£29-£299) .Price depends on your monthly tariff. Apple store will explain and arrange contract for you from the provider of your choice on spot, as well as transfer data from old iPhone if you have one. Full instructions from Apple store will be emailed with reservation.

This is your ticket on owning the most anticipated gadget of 2010 on Launch day and this ticket could be yours.”

[Update] – As noted by Kris (@qrunchmonkey) the winner of this auction should be wary due to the requirement of photo ID on launch day. Will Apple accept a forwarded copy of the original customer’s reservation from the winner? We’re with Kris – we highly doubt it.

“You need to present your Photo ID to pick up an iPhone reservation. Doubt they’ll accept a forwarded copy of the email.”
