Well here’s a figure to wrap your heads around. According to social media blog @Mashable, the UK government has revealed to the BBC that it has been spending in the region of £10-40,000 on the development of applications specifically for Apple’s iOS-based devices.

The first of the apps, Jobcentre Plus, allows people who are currently out of work (or looking) in either England, Scotland or Wales the ability to search for jobs in their region.

But even though the government is spending all this money on iOS development, it seem they’re not keeping up with the platform, with Jobcentre Plus not supporting the latest revision to iOS, iOS4.

While the site notes that £40,000 may not look like much in the grand scheme of things, the BBC, who started the investigation, was unable to determine how much the government had spent on the development of other applications it has made available, with it citing “security concerns.”.

With all this said, don’t expect future additions from them for a while, as as we all now know, the UK government has currently frozen spending on marketing and advertising, and this sadly also includes iPhone apps.
