If you’ve ever wanted to see what your iPhone 4 would look like if it simply fried in front of your eyes, look no further.

According to @BoyGenius today, that’s exactly what happened to one AT&T customer’s iPhone 4. The story goes that the customer bought the phone and brought it in store for repair. The explosion inside the device was reportedly caused by the supplied iTunes sync cable.

According to reports, when the customer plugged the device into his computer it immediately caught on fire, all the while being hooked up to a computer.

Our source went onto say that the phone bezel was extremely hot (obviously), and it slightly burned the customers hand. The USB port in the phone was slightly melted and the cord was badly melted (as is apparent in the pictures). Hopefully this is the only time we see our beloved iPhones meet a fiery death

As Boy Genius notes, this is the first case of its kind and we think it’s likely the rare occurrence was probably caused by a defective battery. Scary.
