mSpot – Movie Rentals. Now Streaming On iPhone, iPod touch and iPad Over Wi-Fi Or 3G!
For those among us who have ever downloaded a movie rental via iTunes, you’ve probably found that the service was far from straight forward. From having to download a physical file to waiting for HD versions to swim down the wire before you can watch them, I don’t know about you, but I’ve had many instances were I’ve had to wait hours to watch a movie through the service.
mSpot aims solve these woes by offering movie rental streaming over both Wi-Fi and 3G.
Only currently available on iTunes US, mSpot consists of a cataloge of some top movies each with the ability to be rented. The difference between mSpot and iTunes Movie Rentals however is mSpot’s offerings are streamed to you wirelessly, without the need for you to download a physical file to your device or computer.
From the various customers who have reviewed the app on iTunes and from @Engadget’s quick look, the stream quality mSpot provides seems pretty decent.
The movies range from $2.99 and $3.99 and can be rented on either your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad (yep! – it’s universal). According to both Engadget and mSpot, customers who stream over 802.11 can expect the highest quality of stream available. The best bit? mSpot works just like iTunes, allowing users to resume playback of movies on the move, right were you left off.
At $2.99 and $3.99 a rental, its fair to say mSpot is a very attractive offering for the would-be movie fan. We’ll be sure to snag the FREE app today and hopefully have a full look, including an in-depth look at the performance and quality of the streams it provides soon – stay tuned!
