Posted by Arron on 09 Aug 2010 @ 2:16 PMAs we all probably well know by now, Apple new advertising platform iAds, which is set to merge the interactivity of internet-based ads with the emotional ties of television-based advertising, launched on July 1st and so far first reports place it quite successful but with low fill rates. Google and AdMob still seem to be winning as far as overall revenue generated.
However, Apple may be about to get even more competitive with the new platform, with 9to5Mac today reporting that iAds now allow developers to include adverts for applications they are currently selling on the App Store. This means that customers can now purchase other apps within apps. Confused? We’re not surprised. Although the move may prove to be a good one … at least for us as consumers.

A new addition to iAds allows developers to sell their Apps directly from iAds, bypassing the App Store altogether. The ad is basically the equivalent of an App Store page. An added bonus: Developers can use the money/credit they earn in iAds to promote their apps in this way. This also helps Apple fill iAds ad slots, which we’ve been hearing are seeing low fill rates.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but recently I’ve noticed developers trying to advertise other applications in-app, and in my honest opinion, 99.9% of the time this has been done quite shoddily with the view used not complimenting iOS’ overall design in any way.
iAds on the other hand will attempt to unify the method through which developers can advertise apps within apps, making it ever-more easier for new users to the platform to understand.
