iOS 4.1. Available September 8th? – [Update: Apple Pulled The Date]

Engadget today reports that Apple UK has confirmed the release of the latest revision to iOS, iOS 4.1 will be happening on September 8th. Yes, next Wednesday.

The new update is expected to bring the widely-awaited Game leaderboard app ‘Game Center’ as well as iTunes TV show rentals, iTunes Ping (Apple’s new social network for Music), HD video uploads to sites like YouTube alongside bug fixes for iPhone 3G slow performance and something dubbed by Apple as “HDR” or High Dynamic Range photos, a feature exclusive to iPhone 4 which sees iPhone 4′s camera take 3 shots in quick succession and merge them together to form one perfectly contrasted, perfectly saturated photo – apparently.

The move is interesting as the Apple US site still states that the software update is “Coming Soon”.

[Update] – As noted by Twitter user @FaresF, Apple has updated the page originally in question on Apple UK to read “Coming Soon” again. This means one of two things. Either someone at Apple was just fired for announcing the release date of iOS 4.1 prematurely, or Apple is having a re-think about when it will release the software.

Either way, when we know more we’ll be sure to let you know!
