It is so far unclear if this will be the official game powered by the original game creators, or if this is a licensed version. We’ve just received word this is an independent developer’s work, creating the minecraft experience for iOS, keeping as many of the original features as possible.
Minecraft for iOS is being independently developed, created from scratch, hopefully keeping as many original Minecraft features as possible

The site discovered lies at minecraftapp.net, and shows little in the way of features or actual app functionality. From the page title however, it is clear we may be in for both an iPhone and iPod touch version, as well as an iPad version.
For those unfamiliar with Minecraft, according to Wikipedia:
Minecraft is a sandbox construction game created by Markus Persson and is currently in pre release alpha. Minecraft development started around the 10th of May 2009.
The game involves players creating and destroying various types of blocks in a three dimensional environment. The player takes an avatar that can destroy or create blocks, forming fantastic structures, creations and artwork across the various multiplayer servers in multiple game modes.
No further information on the App Store flavour of the game is available right now, although we’ll be keeping our eyes pealed over the next few weeks and months for a release date!
