Yes, you read right. Apple has in fact patented the retail stand it currently uses to display the iPad in it’s various retail stores throughout the world. The news comes via Patently Apple who found that the company recently filed a patent with the European patent office which covers the stand’s overall design.
Apple has reportedly already received registration status for the three separate patents it has filed regarding this particular stand design.
Today, the European Patent Office published a series of three Apple patent designs pertaining to, of all things, their In-Store iPad Stand. Apple, or should I really say Steve Jobs, really loves to patent or trademark whatever he can concerning Apple’s retail stores. Apple has trademarked their famous glass store architecture, their distinctive retail store layout and I even remember that they patented their famous New York store’s glass staircase. Well, that’s what makes Apple great in the eyes of their fans: Their fanatical attention to detail!

I don't blame them one bit. If I was running a business as large (as large a target) as Apple, I'd patent anything and everything I could that seemed remotely like intellectual or physical property. Some call it over the top, I call it prudent and self-preserving.
