Apple Just Dropped Support For The iPhone 3G and iPod Touch (2nd Gen)

Did you notice something strange about the just released iOS 4.3 beta? – Apple doesn’t have a version for either the iPhone 3G or iPod touch (2nd Gen). This is seemingly because as noted by MacStories, Apple has just dropped support for both of these devices.

The news follows AT&T completely discontinuing the iPhone 3G last June.

This kind of makes sense given the RAM these devices are sold with and the visual effects later versions of iOS will likely include. That said, it does suck for those who own these devices.

Apple just seeded a new build of iOS, version 4.3, to developers, and it looks like they finally dropped support for the 2008 iPhone 3G. The device is indeed not listed on the iOS developer website, and nothing makes us think that future beta versions will be released for that model. The latest OS for the iPhone 3G may be iOS 4.2.
