With just an hour or so to go until the UK launch, here’s what we know about the iPad 2 stock situation so far. We know that staff at Apple Stores have been told to work on a customer ticketing system, handing out tickets which allocate iPad 2 units to people waiting in line. We also know that if you’re lucky enough to be given one of these tickets you are guaranteed a unit. Another repeating trend, the White iPad 2s appear to be in short supply.
Delving deeper into store-by-store stock levels, we have the following reports from Twitter.
@Maddin reported that PC World in Croydon had just 3 White iPads. He later revealed that someone had let slip the amount of iPad 2s the store received – the number was 14 (in total).
Next we recieved word from @hollyalyxfinch in Exeter who stated that Apple Store employees had indicated they were aware roughly how many units they had in stock today and proceeded to take a poll of the line to see which colour and size units people wanted. Holly later revealed the poll had shown the 16GB Wi-Fi model was most popular, with the staff saying they’d poll again before the store opened at 5PM.
Reports than came in from @MBywalec who reported that the Apple Store in Glasgow had allocated all stock of the iPad 2 White (16GB).
Finally, a recent report from @Ross_Jamieson confirmed that 84 iPad 2s were in stock about an hour ago at PC World, Edinburgh.
[Update] – @Massey_B reports Bullring Apple Store is now completely out of stock.
[Update 2] – @highlightshadow reports that stock is likely, quote “VERY limited” at Apple Store, Leicester. Despite that news, people are reportedly still joining the line as of 4:40PM GMT today.
[Update 3] – Reader comment.
Currys in Cheltenham – all stock reserved by 4.15PM – tho they only had 14 to start with and none were 64GB ones. Don’t know how folk were able to reserve by phone ahead of 5PM – what a shambles….
