It appears that following last Friday’s decision by the ITC, which saw the governing body states that it believed Apple had not infringed upon five of the original thirty seven patents Nokia had cited, Nokia is now going to the jugular, with reports today now claiming the company has filed an entirely new ITC complaint which this time cites seven more patents it believes Apple has infringed upon.
Interestingly, the patents chosen by Nokia this time don’t exclusively relate to Apple products, but all products, including all mobile phones, portable music players, tablet computers and desktop computers currently on the market.
The seven Nokia patents in the new complaint relate to Nokia’s pioneering innovations that are now being used by Apple to create key features in its products in the areas of multi-tasking operating systems, data synchronization, positioning, call quality and the use of Bluetooth accessories.
How successful the company will be in convincing the ITC that Apple has infringed upon these patents is yet to be seen. However, if they do manage to win, this could be damaging to not just Apple but a whole boatload of other product manufacturers, too.
This is one case we’ll be keeping a close eye on.[via 9to5Mac]
