Citing “industry sources in Taiwan,” Digitimes this week claims Apple could be set to add a second manufacturer to its production in order to facilitate meeting holiday demand of the recently rumored “iPad HD”.
Currently manufactured exclusively by Foxconn, the company recently suffered a devastating setback on its iPad 2 production when one of the firm’s plants exploded. While reports now indicate that production is back in full swing at the factory affected, word on the street is that Apple may be looking for a second manufacturer in order to try and prevent the loss of manufacturing output due to such events.
According to today’s report, this second manufacturer is thought to be either Pegatron Technology or Quanta Computers. The current favorite? – Pegatron. Currently the manufacturers of the Verizon CDMA iPhone and the center of a report which suggests the company may have already received an order for 15 Million “iPhone 5″ units, the company definitely sounds like it could be the likely option for Apple.[via 9to5Mac]
