For reasons unknown, it appears Google Books is no longer available for download from the App Store. Last updated in April, with the addition of 3D page turns and landscape mode, one possible reason proposed for the application’s current unavailability is that Google did not update its Books app in time to comply with Apple’s content subscription policies.
This isn’t the first time the app has disappeared from the store, either. Back in June last year, this Google support thread was created noting the disappearance of Google Books from the App Store.
Luckily, Google Employee ‘Tina’ responded:
“Hi Readers, the iPhone and iPad app will be available in the App Store in a few hours. We’ll take down this message when it is available.”
The last reply on the thread from Keith Freshwater, now reads:
… and it’s gone again.
We’ll update here when we know more.

The damage appears to be lasting however, as the option to buy books directly from the app has been revoked. Now, this app is only useful for browsing the books that Google has to offer not for buying them.
