With the trade fair commonly known as Gamescom having taken place in Cologne, Germany earlier this week, Rob Sammons for Touchaholics this weekend offers up some screenshots of EA’s upcoming Battlefield 3: Aftershock for iOS, and we have to say – on first impressions – the game’s visuals look pretty great.

While specific details on the title are still sketchy, we do know that Battlefield 3 for iOS is set to mimic the basic gameplay mechanic of your usual defense title, seeing you having to gun down waves upon waves of enemies who continue to approach your vantage point.

EA Mobile is bringing one of the biggest FPS franchises in the world of gaming onto the iOS platform. The game will be EA’s second drive into this exciting genre following in the footsteps of the incredibly successful Battlefield: Bad Company 2. AAA graphics and fine-tuned controls combine in the best FPS experience on iOS this year. Engage in thrilling singleplayer or in competitive MP against your friends. Upgrade your character and improve your gear to become the ultimate fighting machine.

Supporting both offline and multiplayer gaming modes, currently there’s no official word from Electronic Arts as to when we might expect to see Battlefield 3 hit the App Store, nor is there any word on if the game will support iPhone and iPod touch.
