In an interesting finding by the guys over at MyGreatiPhone this evening, Apple’s intelligent voice assistant, Siri, is actually found be able to restart (or re-spring) the iPhone 4S‘s ‘Springboard’.
For those who are not yet familiar with this term, the iPhone Springboard is another name for the standard application that manages the iOS Homescreen, where all your app icons are found.
Here’s How
To re-spring your iPhone 4S springboard simply by using your voice, all you need to do is tap and hold your iPhone 4S’s home button, and, once Siri pops into view, issuing the voice command “Restart” will restart your iPhone’s springboard.

However, there’s a catch. If you say “Siri, Restart,” Siri will return that it has no clue what you’re talking about. Also, it’s worth noting that, when we tried this ourselves, it did take Siri a good few attempt to restart the iPhone’s Springboard.
In previous failed attempts, Siri simply restarted the conversation it was having with us prior to trying, and asked, “So, What’s next?” — Try it yourself and let us know if it works for you, below!

Outstanding! As a result of my calendar badge not updating and finding no fixes unless I re-boot or re-spring I stumbled upon this site while researching ways to re-spring my jail broken IP-4. I prefer this method to downloading a package from Cydia. I tried the “re-spring” command with Siri and failed. The “re-start” command worked the first time on my jail broken iphone 4. What a relief. Thank you. (p.s. with Cydia, Siri can do all the things you mention as lacking.)
