Those in Puerto Rico will be pleased to hear that Apple’s latest iPhone is available to buy for $100 less than the company’s own pricing. That’s according to AppleInsider, who this weekend notes that Puerto Rican wireless telecoms provider, Claro, is currently offering the 16GB device for $99, plus a two-year wireless contract.
This reflects a $100 drop from Apple’s usual $199 asking price in other regions.
While not yet available, both 32GB and 64GB iPhone 4S models are listed as “coming soon” on the network, and should arrive for $199 and $299, respectively.
But, it’s not all good news, as this low-cost handset pricing is largely off-set by higher monthly plan rates compared to other regions, with $64.98 getting you 250MB of data and “unlimited” SMS and minutes. If those in Puerto Rico are looking to retain their “unlimited” data, though, that monthly figure skyrockets to $84.98.
Plans for the device start at $64.98 a month for unlimited minutes and SMS with 250MB of data, while unlimited data, voice and SMS costs $84.98 a month. Claro also offers the iPhone 4S off contract for $669, $769 and $869, $20 more than Apple’s prices for contract-free versions of its latest handset. The iPhone 4S is also available in Puerto Rico on AT&T and Sprint.
