Don’t look now, but a number of engineers could be looking to turn Apple’s iPad into the head of a robot. The slightly unnerving – (but at the same time, pretty awesome) – future prospect arrives via PatentlyApple, who reports on a number of patent filings uncovered this week which could give birth to a literal “iRobot”.
The company, called iRobot, has patented a “Proposed Mobile-Robot System” which will “utilize Apple’s iOS and iPad” to create a “robot system [which] includes a mobile robot having a controller executing a control system for controlling operation of the robot.”
iRobot’s introductory abstract describes the invention this way: “A robot system includes a mobile robot having a controller executing a control system for controlling operation of the robot, a cloud computing service in communication with the controller of the robot, and a remote computing device in communication with the cloud computing service. The remote computing device communicates with the robot through the cloud computing service.”
iRobot is reportedly currently being developed exclusively for the medical markets, with iRobot’s patents suggesting the technology could make its way into other markets as its development continues to progress.[via 9to5Mac]
