According to a new report which broke last night, Apple’s next special media event could be held as early as March 7. The report arrives via iMore (formerly TiPB) and claims Apple’s third-generation iPad – which is referred to as “iPad 3″ – will feature a Retina display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536, a A6 quad-core processor and the ‘possibility’ of support for 4G LTE networks.
4G LTE networking has been another mystery surrounding the iPad 3, with a compatible Qualcomm chipset becoming available, but international LTE coverage is still slim, and in some cases a year or more away. It sounds like Apple has 4G LTE lined up for iPhone 5 this October, but we’re still not certain if the iPad 3 will get it earlier.
iMore cites its own sources who have “been reliable in the past” as the origin of this information. It’s also worth noting in your assessment of this report that the site correctly predicted the date of Apple’s iPhone 4S event back in October of last year, meaning this report could have some weight to it.
As for the rumored date of such an announcement, March 7? — Here’s Jim Dalrymple’s (a person known to have connections inside Apple) short but concise response: “Yep”.
In other words, mark your calendars.
