Despite us initially thinking that news of Ashton Kutcher’s involvement in the movie was that of an ‘April Fools’ joke, Neowin (via AppleInsider) today report that Kutcher has in fact been chosen to play the role of late Apple CEO an Chairman, Steve Jobs, in the indie biopic ‘Jobs: Get Inspired.’
NEOWIN: Ashton Kutcher is, obviously, a huge Hollywood actor and he must have his pick of projects to choose from. First, why do you think he is your choice for playing Steve Jobs?
Hulme: “Since our film covers the early years of Apple, when Jobs was in his 20′s, we needed an actor who could carry not only the youthfulness of Jobs at the time but also the psychological complexity. Because of that, and Ashton’s physical similarities to Jobs, he’s perfect for our film.”
Further into the interview, Neowin tried to get some more colour on how Hulme originally approached the actor over the playing of the future role.
In response to the question, Hulme revealed that Kutcher was “immediately attracted to the project” after reading the script. Because of this, it reportedly didn’t matter to Kutcher that the biopic was considered ‘small fry,’ compared to other projects the actor may have been approached to play a part in at that time.
… He wanted in.
NEOWIN: Second, was it hard to get him to agree to play the role in a relatively small independent film about Jobs’ life?
Hulme: “When Ashton read the script he was immediately attracted to the project. He is a Steve Jobs and Apple fan, and is technologically savvy, as well, so he recognized the historical importance of Steve Jobs and the potential of the project. He is very excited to have the role.”
The biopic, (which it is expected will focus specifically on Jobs’ life between 1971 and 2000), is reportedly set to begin filming this May. In light of winning the privilege of playing Jobs in the movie, Kutcher is said to have cancelled all projects to focus specifically on playing the important role.
The independent film will see its release in Q4, 2012.
