‘Flashback.S’ Variant Surfaces

Ars Technica this afternoon reports that a variant of that nasty ‘Flashback’ malware package Apple is currently trying to defend its Mac users from, has surfaced.

The new variant – identified under the name of ‘Flashback.S’ – is not thought to be too dissimilar to the original Flashback.K trojan, again managing to worm its way into your system via a Java applet exploit. According to Gizmodo, however, this version “installs itself without the need of your password.”

Mac users are strongly advised to keep their systems up-to-date at all times in regards to both using the latest version of Java and operating system(s) available, in order to try and prevent becoming infected by such threats.
