As evidence continues to pile up that Apple may in fact be working on an iPhone with a close to 4-inch display, MacRumors (via CydiaBlog) this afternoon reports that a number of ‘taller’ iPhone cases have begun to surface, further suggesting the speculation and reports we’ve seen thus far may have some weight to them.
Described as a “Gel Case Cover For iPhone 5,” the case – (which has a model number of ‘IPHONE5-601A’) – would appear to align up perfectly with those purportedly “leaked” details and schematics that we’ve seen reported over the last few weeks.
According to the description:
iPhone 5 TPU gel case, high quality, S shape, enhanced non-slip surface, textured side panels, add protection for your phone, improve the look of your cell phone, precisely appropriates for iPhone 5.
The mysterious case accessory even has the correct cut-outs for the iPhone’s camera module, headphone jack – (which appears to be located on the bottom) – and that redesigned, 19-pin dock connector port, too.
Of course, we’ve seen this before. Manufacturers hedging their bets on the design of the next-generation iPhone, creating accessories for a device which is yet to exist — and let us tell you, it doesn’t always end well.
If you cast your mind back to last year, iPhone accessory manufacturer Hard Candy announced on the morning of October 4 that it had placed a manufacturing order for 50,000, (Yes – 50,000), cases which had been designed for Apple’s (then un-announced) next-generation iPhone.
The cases took into consideration reports at the time, which suggested the iPhone 4S could have landed with a ‘teardrop’-shaped body – (as shown below).
The cases – (specifically tailored to a device carrying a 4.44-inch diagonal display) – even went up for sale prior to the iPhone 4S‘s official announcement. Alas, when the iPhone 4S was announced, the company was forced to issue a statement:
We rolled the dice. We took a gamble. No one’s more disappointed than us. It didn’t pay off….yet! Our gut tells us someday the world will have an iPhone 5.
So, perhaps wholesaler TVC-Mall is also hedging its bets? … Perhaps the cases which are on sale now at the firm’s official website are just a gamble which might pay off in the coming weeks? … Or, perhaps TVC has prior knowledge of what is to come?
Either way, you can get your hands on TVC’s gel cases designed specifically with Apple’s “iPhone 5″ in mind, for as low as $1.58. Simply head to the product’s official order page.
