In a mailshot Apple sent out to developers of the ADC tonight, the Californian company noted that all future iOS app submissions must include screenshots for iPhone 5.
The e-mail notes that developers “must” provide additional screenshots to support the iPhone 5‘s new screen dimensions for the App Store. To submit these new screenshots, Apple says that developers should first visit the ‘Manage Your Applications’ section through iTunes Connect.
As for the new required screenshot sizes?
- 640 x 1136 (portrait)
- 640 x 1096 (portrait)
- 1136 x 640 (landscape)
- 1136 x 600 (landscape)
The e-mail concludes by stating any future app submissions which fail to include these screenshots will fall into the oblivion that is Apple’s App Store review process, and be put to one side until the correct screenshots are included – (Read: You should totally include the new screenshots).
If you deliver a new app binary that takes advantage of the new screen size for iPhone 5 or iPod touch (5th generation) without screenshots in the new dimensions, the status of your app will change to Missing Screenshot. Your app will not be reviewed until you upload screenshots with the correct dimensions. You will also need to upload screenshots for any added localizations you have set up on iTunes Connect.
You can find out more about the changes in the iTunes Connect Developer Guide.

I’ve found that the IPhone5 screenshots are mandatory, no change to the application meta data can be made until the screenshots are supplied.
However…
I’ve found that there appears to be a bug in the submission form. A screenshot cannot be uploaded unless it meets the IPhone 5 size criteria (640 x 1136, 640 x 1096, 1136 x 640, 1136 x 600 ).
However, the form will not submit because of a form level validation that ensures that all the screenshot fields must adhere to either 960×640, 960×600, 640×960 or 640×920 sizes.
Would love to know whether anyone else has encountered this issue..
