Details of this week’s ‘Single of the Week’ after the fold.
iTunes Single of the Week – (UK)
This week’s single of the week is made available by one of my all-time favourite bands, Bastille. Based in South London, England, the band first formed in 2010 and was originally a solo project by singer-songwriter, Dan Smith.
Smith was later joined by Chris ‘Woody’ Wood, Will Farquarson and Kyle Simmons, who form the band the world knows as Bastille, today.
Following the success of their latest single ‘Pompeii’, (which went straight to No. 2 on the Irish Singles Chart on February 28), and which arrives as part of the group’s debut album – ‘Bad Blood’ – originally released on August 20, 2012, ‘Laughter Lines,’ the track the band is giving away as part of Apple’s promotion this week is available only on the ‘Extended Cut’ version of the band’s debut album “Bad Blood,” and features the band’s signature alternative-indie rock style.
iTunes Single of the Week – (US)
The U.S single of the week, however, is the work of BOY. A Swiss-German pop duo founded in 2007, BOY is made up of singer Valeska Steiner (Swiss) and bassist Sonja Glass (German).
The duo originally met while at a pop-music course at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg back in 2005. At that time, the band played exclusively only when asked, before Steiner and Glass were in the years that followed discovered and signed to Herbert Grönemeyer‘s label, Grönland Records, in 2011.
