Among other goodies, players who choose to install the new update will find that they can now access an early “alpha” of the firm’s ‘Realms’ servers. ‘Minecraft Realms’ have been in development largely since ‘Minecon 2012,’ when Mojang itself revealed that they wanted to “host their own servers.”
Per Minecraft Wiki:
“Minecraft Realms, also known as Realms, is a work-in-progress feature that allows for paid public servers hosted by Mojang. Realms servers can also have a whitelist. Realms provide an easy and faster way to create Minecraft servers and allows more control for the creator. Minecraft Realms are not intended for large public servers but for groups of friends or as a family server.”
In addition to getting a taster of what Mojang‘s own hosted ‘Realms’ servers are capable of, you’ll also find that the world creation tool has been updated with smooth lighting, spawn eggs, a new chat feature – (so you can chat with all those also playing), eggs, milk … and yes – CAKE!
The firm says that with the new update connecting players’ ‘inventory’ is now saved on the server, and Mojang is notably also introducing, and demoing, a number of new in-game menus, which should become apparent when you launch the game up for yourself.
Minecraft – Pocket Edition 0.7.0 is a FREE update for all existing players. The game supports iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, universally, weighing in at a block-smashing 4.0 MB.
