iOS 7: Newly Downloaded Apps Are Now Marked With A Blue Dot

Another small tidbit that we’ve noticed during our short time using iOS 7 (Beta 1) is that newly downloaded apps using Apple’s ‘Automatic Downloads’ feature will now show a symbolic blue ‘dot’ next to their homescreen icon.

In iOS 6, this marking of new applications is done visually by Apple placing a smaller banner that hangs over the app’s homescreen artwork. The banner is blue and is shown in the top-right corner(as seen above).

With the launch of iOS 7, however, new apps which you either download yourself from the onboard App Store, or which are automatically downloaded for you across all your iCloud connected devices with Apple’s ‘Automatic Downloads’ feature, will now show a small ‘blue dot’ next to their title.

It’s a small change, but one which we thought was at least worth a mention. While it is unclear if this feature will make it into the final shipping version of the software, it would appear, (at least for now), that Ive’s radically new approach to iOS doesn’t have time for things like visual banners.
