Alongside adding the official VEVO music channel to its TV-connected media box, Apple is tonight also updating its Apple TV for those in the U.S with a number of other content channels, including; The Weather Channel, Smithsonian Channel, The Disney Channel, and Disney XD.
While access to The Weather Channel on Apple TV is FREE, those looking to have access to both the Smithsonian and Disney channels will first have to provide a valid login, in order to prove that they have an active subscription through AT&T U-verse, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Midcontinent Communications, Optimum, or Verizon FiOS.
Just as with the VEVO music channel, access to The Weather Channel, Smithsonian Channel, The Disney Channel, and Disney XD is available immediately to those in the U.S-only, and no physical update is required for each of the apps to begin showing up on the Apple TV homescreen.

UPDATE: Geo-Region Locked
As noted by some of you out there, you can in fact change your Apple TV‘s location “region” in device settings in order to access the U.S-centric homescreen that users in the states are seeing.
However, having tested this we can confirm that both the Disney and Disney XD channels are geo-restricted. Which means that, even if you were to switch your Apple TV location to the “United States,” you still won’t be able to access content from Disney, or Smithsonian.
