Likely to quell recent speculation regarding the device, and build hype for its upcoming announcement in the process, Samsung has officially confirmed that it will unveil its long-rumored smartwatch, on the morning of September 4.
The Korean Times relays comments made by one of Samsung’s senior company executives, who announced that Samsung is planning the launch of its “smartwatch” product at an event to be held in Berlin, Germany.
Notably, the device is not expected to carry a flexible display:
“In an exclusive interview with The Korea Times, Monday, Lee Young-hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, said that the smartwatch, named Galaxy Gear, will use a “non-flexible display,”” the paper reports.
“We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on Sept. 4,” Lee was quoted as saying, whilst also hinting that the product had been in development for some time.
Samsung’s announcement will arrive just 6-days prior to Apple’s all-but confirmed September 10 press event, at which the company is now expected to show-off the next in its line-up of iPhone(s) to kick off its “very busy Fall” period.
