    Apple Settles iPhone 4 Class-Action ‘Antennagate’ Lawsuit – [UPDATE: Clarification]

    As reported by CNET (via 9to5Mac), Apple has this week settled the class-action brought against it regarding the internet coined issue ‘Antennagate’ – (which was proven by the firm to exist on almost all smartphone handsets after the issue was originally highlighted in the latter half of 2010) – by offering each and every some iPhone 4 customers either $15 or a FREE bumper case.

    Apple Seen To Be Remotely Disabling Siri Clones/Ports

    (credit: LifeHacker) Speaking of Siri, according to a new report which broke earlier this week, Apple may now have begun remotely disabling user clones (and ports) of the virtual assistant on iOS devices which were never meant to support the feature in the first place – (read: everything but the iPhone 4S). RedmondPie reports that the new security measures now require users to have a valid “SetActivationToken,” something which ports of the software, such as the highly-popular version “Spire”, reportedly can’t facilitate in its current form.

    Three UK Slashes Handset Prices On iPhone 4 & 4S, Now Starting At £29

    Telecoms network Three UK has tonight announced it has slashed its handset pricing on both Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Affecting both Black (and White) models of the iPhone 4S (16GB), iPhone 4S (32GB) and iPhone 4 (8GB), the new tariffs now see Apple’s iPhone 4S start with just a £29 up-front cost, with users then required to pay £36 per month thereafter.

    Apple Issues Notice Informing Developers “Retina” Screenshots Are Now Required

    In a move which could indicate that the company may be preparing to imminently discontinue its iPhone 3GS, Apple earlier this week issued a notice to developers noting that – from this point onwards – “Retina” screenshots are now a requirement for the App Store submission of applications designed for both iPhone and iPod touch.

    NYT: Wolfram Alpha Seeing Explosive Usage Due To Siri

    • February 7, 2012

    In a new report by The New York Times’ Steve Lohr the columnist notes that computational engine Wolfram Alpha has seen an explosion in usage over the last few months, with this burst of usage now having been put down to the ease and accessibility of one of the iPhone 4S‘s most-talked about features — Siri. With Apple using the engine to provide users with the answers to everyday questions, Wolfram Alpha now claims that a roughly one quarter of all queries sent to its servers now originate from the intelligent assistant.

    NPD: iPhone 4S Outselling iPhone 4 By 75 Percent

    New data out of market research firm NPD this evening suggests that Apple’s latest smartphone offering – the iPhone 4S – could now be outstripping demand of the device’s previous predecessor – the iPhone 4 – by a rate of 75 percent.

    HTC: Apple’s iPhone Is Stunting Quarterly Profits

    HTC’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Winston Yung, has this week told investors that the company is expecting a 26 percent drop in Q4, 2011 profits. That’s according to Apple 2.0, who reports that the firm’s executive specifically noted Samsung and Apple as the cause for this stunted profit growth.

    iPhone Takes More Than A Quarter Of Smartphone Revenue In Q4, 2011
